Franklin Park Borough Council and
Mayor award scholarships to graduating seniors who are borough
residents each year. The Borough hopes to award between 8-10/$1,000 dollar
scholarships.
One of the scholarships is always awarded to an individual
pursuing post secondary education at a trade school. This
scholarship is known as the “Melvin D. Lubert
Scholarship.” The scholarship is named after Melvin
Lubert who was an employee of the Borough and passed away
unexpectedly while on duty at the Public Works Department.

Borough Community Scholarship Rating Criteria:
Employment and/or Community Service Activities:
Each eligible applicant will be
evaluated for their work and/or community service activities.
The applicant’s work experience can either be paid or
unpaid. Consideration will be given to the length of time and
the number of hours an applicant has worked. In lieu of work
experience, an applicant’s volunteer time or participation
in community, church, boy/girl scouts and other like
organizations will be considered under this category. Awards
and leadership positions within a club or organization will
likewise be evaluated. Also, any outstanding award, merit
community service credits, and similar factors will be
considered.

Applicants should furnish up to
three letters of reference from any of the following:
employers, volunteer, social, religious, educational or other
like organizations.
Essay
Each applicant will write an essay
not to exceed one typed page. The essay must explain why the
student is interested in his/her chose field of study.

Special Circumstances
No Points
This category provides applicants
with the opportunity to explain any unusual events that may
have affected their performance. A family divorce or death,
illness, hardship after a relocation, etc.
While this category will not be assigned any points, it
may provide a basis by which the Selection Committee can award
additional points in the other categories, if warranted.

Note:
Students who have received
financial aid from other sources equal to or exceeding the
total cost of attending the school of their choice will be
ineligible to receive the Franklin Park Borough Community
Scholarship.
This scholarship is only available
to Franklin Park Borough residents.

Robert C. Edwards Scholarship
Foundation
Scholarship Application
Available May of Each Year

The Robert C. Edwards
Scholarship is administered by the Robert C.
Edwards Scholarship Foundation. The Scholarship
will be presented to a selected student in each
of the six (6) Districts of the Pennsylvania
State Association of Boroughs (PSAB).
Allegheny, Beaver, Fayette, Green and
Washington Counties comprise the second
district.
The applicant must be from a
Borough which is a member of the
Pennsylvania State Association of Boroughs
(PSAB). The applicant must have been
accepted for admission to an accredited
College, University or School which offers a
two (2) or a four (4) year degree/certificate
program. The scholarship is for the first year
(freshman) at the College, University or
School.
Applicants must submit the following
information:
- A high school transcript including the
first two marking periods of the senior
year.
- A letter of recommendation from the
guidance counselor written on High School
stationery.
- A letter of acceptance from the College,
University or School.
- A list of school activities participated
in by the applicant, offices held and honors
received.
- A listing, with short description, of
experiences of community service including
church activities.
- Write your name on the back of a small photograph
and attach to this application.
- Write or type a letter so the foundation can become
acquainted with you. Please include why you want to
further your education, and what you expect from college.
