The concept of a
Community Barn/Activity Center was
first introduced in 1995. The proposed
Center went through several design
changes. In 1999 Borough Council
rejected construction bids submitted by
several private contractors. The cost
far exceeded $250,000 construction
budget. Afterwards, Mr. Merriman,
Public Works Superintendent, proposed
the Borough build the Center in-house
utilizing Public Works and Parks &
Recreation Department employees. Upon
Council's approval, construction
started in spring 2000. In addition to
their normal duties, Borough crews
worked at the Center for 15 months.
"The finished product exemplifies the
skill and craftsmanship of our
employees," said Borough Manager
Ambrose Rocca. With the exception of
the roof, flooring, air conditioning
and some plumbing, Borough forces
completed all other work. The Center is
a 6,000 square foot building with two
floors and has a barn-like
appearance.
The lower level houses
a pool table, electronic dart board and
ping-pong table serving as a recreation
center during specified hours. The
upper level consists of a beautiful
large open room to be used for a
variety of programs as well as a rental
facility. A commercial-style kitchen,
rest rooms and large attached deck make
the center ideal for rental
