Allegheny County Health Department (ACHD) raccoon rabies vaccination baiting will occur July 31st through August 31st, 2020 across Allegheny County. To reduce the risk of human cases of rabies, ACHD and the USDA Wildlife Services distribute vaccine baits throughout all areas of Allegheny County. The risk of adverse effects to humans and animals due to exposure to the vaccine is minimal, but you are urged to avoid contact with the bait if possible. If a stray bait must be removed, it should be picked up using rubber or latex gloves or a shovel. Allegheny County Health Department is also asking the public to keep their dogs on a leash, indoors, or confined to your property as much as possible during baiting and the week after.
