Green-Up Day UpdateThank you to the wonderful team of 18 volunteers who showed up in the rain to work on Saturday, March 23, 2024, to help the EAC plant 100 buttonbush and silky willow along the banks of the headwaters of Little Sewickley Creek in Acorn Park. Litter was also cleaned up in the area with glass, plastic, and cans sorted and recycled. All 100 plastic sapling pots were donated for reuse. This riparian forest buffer will help protect against flooding, filter pollution for cleaner water, and stabilize streambanks to prevent erosion. The green biodegradable tree tubes protecting the saplings from wildlife can be seen from the road when driving north on Magee Road Extension. A special thank you to Franklin Park resident Martin Karl for procuring the plants from the Chesapeake Bay Foundation and Keystone 10 Million Trees Partnership.

Sidewalk Maintenance With spring’s arrival, property maintenance often becomes a focus of our residents.
In the Borough of Franklin Park, it is the responsibility of the property owner to maintain any sidewalks that may border their property “in good repair”. The borough of Franklin Park Code Chapter 159 “Property Maintenance” and Chapter 180 “Streets and Sidewalks” completely cover all property maintenance requirements for public sidewalks. In late 2022, the Borough clarified “§ 180-8 Repair required” in Ordinance No. 672-2022 to provide an easily measurable definitions of when sidewalk repair is required. Please follow this link to see the latest ordinance revisions for sidewalks.
