Bird Town

The Borough is applying to be officially designated as a Bird Town PA. The Borough Council passed the enabling Resolution on 7/17/2024. Council designated the Environmental Advisory Council (EAC) as the Bird Town PA Committee. The EAC has drafted the Application required for the official designation and the Application is currently under review. What exactly is Bird Town PA, you may ask; it is a lot more than would be obvious from the name.

Official Mission: Bird Town Pennsylvania works in partnership with local municipalities and like-minded organizations to promote community-based conservation actions to create a healthier, more sustainable environment for birds, wildlife, and people.

 Goals include activities to:

  • Renovate parks and public spaces
  • Restore natural habitats
  • Install native plants in landscapes
  • Identify and remove invasive plants
  • Manage stormwater
  • Clean up streams and streets
  • Reduce bird strikes
  • Encourage alternatives to pesticides
  • Generally, any projects to improve the natural environment

Watch the EAC website (https://www.franklinparkborough.us/208/Environmental-Advisory-Council) for the Bird Town PA webpage (COMING SOON)

Stay tuned for more information on future activities.  If you want to participate in some fun activities, advise Donna Platt of your interests and she will add you to our EAC volunteers list.  Call 412-364-4115 x302 or email dplatt@franklinparkborough.us with Bird Town PA in the subject line.

snow angels

Snow Angels is a volunteer program designed to assist elderly and disabled residents with snow removal from sidewalks and driveways after a winter storm.

The Borough is looking for volunteers willing to be a Snow Angel. Snow Angels will then be paired with a nearby resident in need.

If you are an elderly or disabled resident in need of a Snow Angel or would like to volunteer to be a Snow Angel, contact Donna Platt at 412-364-4115, Ext. 302 or by email at dplatt@franklinparkborough.us.

This is the second year of this program. If you were on the list last year as a volunteer or requiring assistance, please confirm with Donna Platt if you would like to continue volunteering or receiving assistance this year.

If you know of a neighbor that could use the help, please volunteer to be their "Angel".

UPDATE TO CURBSIDE RECYCLING

Franklin Park Borough residents are now able to recycle glass (jars, jugs and bottles only) and #5 plastics in their curbside recycling containers.  Residents are still able to continue utilizing the glass bin that is located at the Municipal Building.  The glass collected in this bin is considered clean product and therefore, the Borough receives a greater credit for it from the State.  To stay up to date on recycling guidelines, visit our Recycling Information page.
