"SNOW ANGELS" VOLUNTEER PROGRAM
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED IN THE WEXFORD AREA

Snow Angels is a volunteer program designed to assist older and disabled residents with snow removal from sidewalks and driveways after a winter storm.  The program will run from December 1 through the last snowfall of the season.

The Borough is looking for volunteers willing to be a Snow Angel.  Snow Angels will then be paired with a nearby resident in need.

Signing up to be a Snow Angel or to receive assistance is easy!  Go to the Snow Angel Program page of our website to sign up online or to acquire additional information and guidelines of the program. Or contact Donna Platt at 412-364-4115, Ext. 302 or by email at dplatt@franklinparkborough.us.

If you know of a neighbor that could use the help, please volunteer to be their "Angel".

STRING LIGHT RECYCLING

Light Up Your Holidays!

Recycle Your Old or Broken String Lights

Yes, it is that time of year! Ready to decorate for the holiday, but those pesky string lights just don't seem to want to work? Franklin Park is again offering a way to dispose of those old or broken string lights. A collection bin has been set up courtesy of Michael Brothers Hauling & Recycling to provide a place for you to recycle your lights for a good cause. Michael Brothers has partnered with Project Bundle-Up for their Annual Christmas Light Recycling Drive. All holiday lights are accepted.  Preferably not attached to garland or wreaths.

The collection bin is located in the lobby of the Municipal Building and, available during regular business hours, Monday-Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, except for holiday closures.  We will collect string lights until January 9, 2026.

All proceeds support Project Bundle-Up to provide winter outerwear to children and seniors,

Thanksgiving on Every Table

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who generously donated to the Thanksgiving on Every Table food drive. Thanks to your kindness, we delivered two full truckloads of food along with over $700 in gift cards to North Hill Community Outreach.

This year’s food drive was our most successful collection yet! Your generosity made a meaningful difference for families in need, and we are truly grateful.

Thank you once again for your incredible support and for helping make this year’s food drive such a tremendous success!

YARD WASTE DROP OFF SITE CLOSURE

The Yard Waste Drop Off Site at Blueberry Hill Park will be closed for the season on Monday, December 1, 2025.  Please DO NOT leave any material at or near the site. The site will reopen on or about March 1, 2026, weather permitting.  The Leaf Bag Drop Off Site will not formally close due to its proximity to the road. However, please try to refrain from placing leaf bags at the site during the winter months.  This site is NOT to be used as an alternative to the Yard Waste Drop Off Site.  Residents must obtain a new permit each year.

Both sites are under video surveillance.  Violators will be prosecuted.

REMARKABLE TREE PROGRAM

Pennsylvania was named for our trees; Pennsylvania means Penn’s Woods. The EAC has started a Remarkable Tree Program to have a registry of notable trees within Franklin Park Borough in order to identify the grandest trees and help preserve these icons. The long-term goals of the program are to promote the importance of the tree canopy to our environment; promote stewardship to ensure sustainability of the canopy; foster community appreciation; celebrate the many social, economic, environmental, and human health benefits; as well as educate residents about appropriate preservation, conservation, maintenance and planting practices. Nominated trees must be within Franklin Park. If you know of a Remarkable Tree, please bring it to our attention by submitting a Remarkable Trees Nomination Form.  Deadline for 2025 nominations is December 1, 2025.  For more information on the program or ways to nominate a tree visit our News from the EAC webpage.

SALUTE TO VETERANS BREAKFAST RECAP

We held our Salute to Veterans Breakfast on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at the Blueberry Hill Park Activity Center. We were honored to welcome more than 50 veterans and their guests, including World War II veterans. It was also a privilege to have the NA AF JROTC serve as the color guard for the event.

This year, we introduced an Honor Roll to recognize the veterans who have passed since our last breakfast. After their names were read, a young bugler from the NA AF JROTC performed Taps, offering a moving tribute to their memory.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated and volunteered to make this event truly special. We are grateful for the opportunity to honor our veterans—those who are still with us, those we have lost, and those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Their service and dedication will never be forgotten.

A big thank you to our breakfast sponsors:  Wann Corporation/Wann Properties Inc., Thoroughbred, Misty Pines Pet Company and CHROME Federal Credit Union.
